Located right next to Big John’s Pizzeria in the Key Plaza Shopping Center on Roosevelt Blvd, the Key Plaza Creperie is a new restaurant, opened for about a month now. The nice thing about this location is that there is parking, a rarity for the downtown restaurants.
My friend Pam and I had breakfast here the other morning, not knowing exactly what to expect. WHen we walked in we were surprised by the beautifully modern decor; the new owners obviously put a lot of time and money into making the space, small as it is, very pleasant. We were seated immediately at a small table in the middle of the restaurant, which was the only table available at the time. Busy after just a month opened was a good sign indeed.
After perusing the menus Pam ordered a coffee and a veggie omelette, no tomatoes. I ordered a cafe ole and the galette filled with cheddar cheese and scrambled eggs with crisp bacon on the side. All egg dishes are served with fingerling potatoes, baked parmesan tomato, mini crepe, and a spicy chipotle sauce (which I was skeptical about but determined to at least try it).
Our coffees were brought out immediately and they were delicious. I actually ended up ordering another cafe ole because I went through my first one ridiculously fast it was so good.
The omelette was huge and looked amazing. And while there were no tomatoes in the omelette, they still brought her the baked parmesan tomato. When I tried a bite of the omelette, the eggs were fluffy and it was filled with delicious and fresh mushrooms, peppers, onions, and spinach. The potatoes were tender and well seasoned too.
The galettes, which are buckwheat crepes filled with a savory filling, were delicious. And my bacon was crisp as requested. This dish did not come with any sides as the omelette did.
We both tried the chipotle mayo which was actually extremely tasty, although I did not think that it necessarily worked with the dishes we ordered. It had a bite to it and would have been great on a sandwich or with their quesadillas.
Service was good. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, even with it being as busy as it was while we were there. I would definitely come here again for breakfast or lunch as it is a great little spot. I only hope that they makes it so that I can try out some of the other menu items. In addition to the egg and galette options on the menu, they also have sweet crepes, sandwiches, salads, soups, and quesadillas. Hours are 7 days, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
