It had been a long, long time since I had last eaten here. But last night my husband and I joined our friends at the Southernmost Beach Cafe for a birthday dinner celebration. Located at the Southernmost Beach Resort on South Street, you can enjoy outdoor beachside dining in the shade.
To start, we ordered calamari and coconut shrimp. For the main course my husband and I both ordered the Free Range Chicken, Tommy ordered the Burger and truffeled tater tots, and Pam ordered the fresh catch which happened to be yellowtail snapper.
Both of the starters were nicely presented, and while they were not mind blowing, they were certainly tasty.
The free range chicken was served atop quinoa and scattered with crispy prosciutto, goat cheese and jicama salsa. I do not even remotely like quinoa, but that did not take away from the delicious taste of the chicken which was tender and moist and flavorful throughout. It also meshed well with the goat cheese and prosciutto.
I cannot repeat exactly what Tommy said about his burger as it would be highly inappropriate for my family friendly blog, so to paraphrase, he thought that it was freaking awesome and one of the top five burgers he had ever eaten. Probably due to the wagyu beef which is my personal favorite, and it was topped with caramelized onions, bacon, and blue cheese. I mean what is not to love there! No mustard or ketchup needed!
The fresh catch was prepared perfectly and was tasty, paired with steamed vegetables and rice, topped with onion straws.
Since it was a birthday celebration, we did order dessert as well. There were two to choose from. The birthday girl ordered the key lime pie with oreo cookie crust. I ordered the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake to share with my husband. Both were deadly delicious, creamy, and they certainly tasted home made. Rounded out with some hot tea and coffee, this was the perfect ending to a delicious meal.
Our server, Rachael, was chatty, but very pleasant. She was on top of our table and we never had to go with empty drinks. All in all this was a slightly pricey but highly enjoyable dining experience.
