2025 Update
Our Broil restaurant review 2025 update is here! Since our first visit back in 2022, my husband and I come here on occasion when we want a great meal without driving into Key West. And, I decided to come here for dinner to celebrate my birthday this past week. Except for holidays, Broil does not take reservations. And, being that we were going on a Thursday night in offseason, I wasn’t too worried about getting a table. We arrived at 7pm with our party (5 of us in total) and I am pretty sure the we got the last table available inside. Eating outside in August in the Florida Keys can be a bit sweaty! Anyway, if that does not say something about their following due to the food, I am not sure what will.

The Food
We started off with the onion rings and the lobster bites as appetizers. Per usual, the onion rings were amazing; light and creasy and delicious. The lobster bites were yummy. They were crispy and delicious and not overdone. Both were served with their bistro sauce which is reminiscent of the blooming onion sauce at Outback Steakhouse, but better!
Entrees still come with a salad with dressing of your choice and a baked potato or vegetable of the day. All but one of us went with the delicious blue cheese. Per usual, the salads were fresh and beautifully presented and the dressing was tasty and served in the perfect amount. Not a fan of my salad drowning in dressing, and no worries here! And the bread and butter served was soft and warm and so yummy. We all enjoyed that little starchy treat before our main entrees.
Note, when they serve the main entrees here, be prepared for a show. They are served with a cloche covering the plate which the servers make a huge production of and turn it into an entertaining little show that makes you feel like you are about to endeavor into a very special meal, which you are!
My husband went with the chicken martini which is amazing! The chicken is brined for an entire day making it so moist and flavorful. Bonus for me is that I got the olives served with the dish as my husband does not like those. He ordered the baked potato to go with it. The rest of us went with the Steak Churchill, which is actually the Steak Sinatra renamed. The three medallions of filet were perfectly cooked to our desired temperatures and served over decadent and delicious lobster mashed potatoes and two spears of tempura like asparagus. We all got the veggie of the day since we had potatoes on our plate already, which was perfectly seasoned and steamed broccolini for the evening. Everything was so amazing.
Normally, we would get the carrot cake to end the meal, but we skipped dessert here for the evening. However, definitely get the carrot cake if you eat here as it is probably the best I have ever eaten. We had a few leftovers, and they are wrapped up in foil in the shape of a swan. Very classy and another nice touch to make the evening special.
Broil is still open Tuesday through Sunday from 5 to 9pm. You can find them on Cudjoe Key, 21611 Old State Road 4a. This is a great place to celebrate a special occasion. Prices are a bit on the high side; however, it is worth it for the high food quality and the impeccable service. Also, the food and the service at Broil are both consistently very good, praise that I cannot apply to many places!
Original Review
Living about twenty minutes away from Key West means that we don’t always want to head into town to have a nice meal. But, there are only a handful of restaurants within a few minutes drive from our house. So, with Broil opening recently, my husband and I were excited to finally be able to check it out this weekend.
Broil calls itself a small island steakhouse. However, there is also plenty of seafood on the menu. Located on Cudjoe Key, Broil is open Tuesday through Sunday from 5 until 9pm. They do not take reservations except for on holidays.
Since they had just opened when we arrived, we had our pick of tables. There is a small outside seating area, and you are welcome to bring your well behaved dog here to dine with you. However, being it is getting pretty hot now, we opted to sit inside. The space is beautiful and elegant with a definite island feel.

The Food
To start, we ordered a glass of cab and the onion rings as an appetizer. These were delicate and light and absolutely perfect when bitten into. And, the bistro sauce was very tasty and there was plenty of it.
All entrees here are served with a “chopped salad” and choice of baked potato or vegetable of the day. The chopped salad was beautifully presented and with a choice of dressings made in house, was a nice, light start to dinner. I opted for blue cheese and Steven the green goddess which was ranch like. We both enjoyed our choices. Also, we both ordered baked potatoes to go with our entrees. But, we had them wrapped up and we brought them home because our meals already included a starch.
Since this is a steakhouse, I decided to go with one of their house specials, the Steak Sinatra. This dish was comprised of four filet mignonettes served over lobster mashed potatoes, french fried asparagus and a lobster Newburg sauce. The fillets were cooked perfectly as specified, which is tough to do with mignonettes. And, they tasted very good as well. The mashed potatoes were tasty. And, with the lobster mixed in made this dish a surf and turf of sorts. But, the asparagus were my favorite. These were lightly battered and fried, very much like a tempura.
Steven went with the linguine tuttomare, which consisted of lobster, shrimp, scallops and mushrooms tossed in a creamy sauce. The seafood was cooked just right and was delicious, but the sauce was kind of boring.
For dessert, we ordered coffee and shared a slice of carrot cake. The coffee was nice and smooth and the carrot cake was moist and delicious with a luscious cream cheese frosting. A sweet ending to a very good meal.
