Breakfast sandwich and cafe con leche from Bien.
Breakfast sandwich and cafe con leche from Bien.

Located at 1000 Eaton Street, Bien is a very casual eatery with limited outdoor seating. They serve breakfast and lunch. I tried it for breakfast this weekend.

Bien offers many sandwich choices, all made with Cuban bread. They have both sweet and savory options. You go to the counter to order your food and they will wrap up your food to go and bring it out to you at one of the tables outside. I ended up eating on site. It was fun people watching from here, although very noisy with all of the passing traffic.

I ordered what I have dubbed their house sandwich which is toasted and buttered Cuban bread loaded with two fried eggs, hash browns, cartelized onions, melted cheese, sour cream, pickles jalapeños, and fresh cilantro. And you can choose to add your choice of protein (bacon, ham, sausage, steak, shrimp). Of course I went with bacon. I was a little nervous that with so many items there would be a flavor competition, but it was divine and everything melded together perfectly!

And the cafe con leche was also superb. Love getting a really good cup of coffee. That can really make or break a meal sometimes.

After such a surprisingly delicious breakfast, I am looking forward to trying lunch here one day soon too! The Rice and Bean Trio and the Onion Obsession sound delish!!
