December in Key West

Today is the first day of December! It was 80 degrees yesterday but a major cold front moved through last evening making it a balmy 70 degrees outside today. I know. I know. I am really suffering down here. Well, it may be 70 degrees, but it does not seem like Christmas is just around the corner. Maybe this weekend’s Tree Trimming Party at the Schooner Wharf Bar will change that. This Sunday, December 4th starting at 5:00 PM the Schooner Wharf will be hosting a party to get everyone into the holiday spirit.

If you bring a nautical ornament to decorate the bar’s Christmas tree they will give you a free drink (Eggnog, Swedish Glogg, or Hot Applejack). In addition to trimming the tree there will also be other festivities such as a toy drive, an ornament context, and live music. It should be a real fun time.

One also knows that the holidays are upon us by the smell of pine around select areas selling fresh cut Christmas trees shipped in from North Carolina. You can find trees already at Hurricane Hole Marina, Publix, and the MARC House. Last year I waited too long to get my tree and they sold out so I am thinking I may end up getting one this weekend to avoid the last minute panic I experienced last year. Thank goodness I found my old artificial tree in the attic last year or my mom and my sister would have been very disappointed with my 2 inch Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

Other festivals and events will be put on the schedule soon to help bring holiday spirit to our island. You can check them out by visiting our calendar of events.
