Key West Loses a Legend, Fred Cabanas

Fred Cabanas, owner of Cabanas Aeronautics Unlimited in Key West, which offers aerial tours and stunt rides over the islands, died yesterday in a plane crash in Cozumel, Mexico.  Cabanas, who was at the controls at the time of the crash and his passenger Jorge Lopez were filming a documentary to promote an air show. No other crash details have been made known to the public yet.

Cabanas was a native of Key West, and a legendary stunt pilot known world-wide. He had logged more than 25,000 hours piloting aircraft, won numbers flying awards, and also flew vintage planes for several films and television programs.

Key West and the entire flying community will surely miss you Freddy!
