Key West Restaurant Review: Boat House

Walking around last night checking out he race boats, we decided to grab a bite to eat before heading home. We ended up stopping at the Boat House, located beneath the Commodore Restaurant at A&B Marina. For those of you that have been in the area before thinking, there is no restaurant there, you are kinda right. This spot used to be a Tommy Bahama store but they closed their doors about a year ago and the Boat House moved in.

I had not eaten here before, and since we were dressed super casual and this is a bar and grill atmosphere we thought it an appropriate choice. It was very loud, but that is to be expected when the races are in town and the place is packed. Even so, our food and service were very good.

I ordered a salad with steamed shrimp (I cannot for the life of me remember what the name of the salad was, but it was the first one on that section of the menu) and my husband ordered the ribeye with fries.

My salad was huge, which was great because I was starved. It had butter lettuce, endive, tomatoes, onions, nuts, cranberries, crumbled blue cheese and of course the shrimp. It came with a tasty, creamy vinaigrette on the side. (I did ask to have a blue cheese dressing brought on the side which the waitress forgot, but it was not a big deal as I would not have ended up using it anyway.) The shrimp were cooked perfectly and I did not even need to eat most of the dressing because everything just went well together; the salty of the nuts with the sweet of the cranberries and the butter lettuce. Yummy! I am getting hungry thinking about it.

My husband’s steak was very good, a large, juicy cut. He rated it a 10 out of a possible 15, with 15 being Ruth’s Chris and 5 being Outback. Not bad! The fries were yummy and it was also plated with a small salad and dressing of his choice.

I thought about taking pictures of our plates to share with you all but I was just too hungry. Sorry, LOL.

All in all, although I did not enjoy the noise, it was not the fault of the Boat House that the other diners were loud and obnoxious. The food and service were both good and that is all that I can ask for. I would certainly go back to the Boat House for another casual meal in Key West.

I should also mention that my husband ate lunch there a few days prior with some friends and ordered the burger which he loved. He actually wanted to order that last night for dinner but they do not serve burgers for dinner. At first he was disappointed but not after he ate his steak.
