Restaurant Review – Old Town Mexican Cafe

This Saturday we decided to go downtown to check out Lobsterfest with some friends. The street fair covered several blocks of Duval Street with stands serving up all different types of lobster dishes and  vendors sells all different types of wares, from jewelry to hats to clothing to art work. The selection was amazing and everyone was having fun. It was very hot outside and after walking around and checking everything out we were hot and tired and hungry. The lines for the food booths at Lobsterfest were long and we really wanted to find some quiet and shade.

So we walked down Duval Street to the Old Town Mexican Cafe. The seating was outdoor but under huge trees that provided a ton of shade and a cool setting. We chose our seat and our dog Indie was welcome too.

The bartender came over, brought us some water and menus, and took our drink order. We got a pitcher of Sangria which was cool, refreshing and delicious. He then took our appetizer order and we got nachos for the table. He also made some suggestions for us as well as answered all of our questions about the menu. The nachos were yummy, covered in cheese, beans, ground beef, sour cream, guacamole, fresh jalapenos, peppers, and olives. The waiter then came over to check on us and we also ordered a shredded beef burrito and chips with salsa. He brought the chips and salsa immediately. These were good but I personally was not a fan of the salsa; it was fresh but a little to citrusy. The burrito was brought over soon after; it was a good size and covered with cheese. It definitely had to be eaten with a fork and knife. The beef was so tender and seasoned to perfection. I have to say that it was the best burrito I have ever had. If I wasn’t so full we may have ordered one of the tempting desserts on the menu.

This is a must visit for lunch or dinner if you are downtown and in the mood for Mexican.
