Tuna is one of the most popular fish in the world to eat. While I have absolutely nothing against eating canned tuna fish, eating fresh tuna is a complete delight. And, luckily for us here in Key West, we catch them often offshore on our deep sea fishing charters. We mainly get into blackfin tuna off of the Florida Keys, but we do get into the occasional yellowfin or bluefin tuna as well. Hey, they are all delicious! Here is my recipe for seared tuna. It is super simple but a real show stopper!

Ingredients:
- 2 tuna steaks or filets
- salt and pepper
- olive oil
- sesame seeds (optional)
- soy sauce (optional)
- wasabi (optional)
Method:
Rinse and pat dry the tuna. Season all sides with salt and pepper. Heat a non-stick skillet to medium high. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the pan. Place fish into the pan and cook for approximately 2 minutes per side. (Please note that cook time should be determined by how rare you want your tuna to be, how thick the steaks / filets are, and how hot your stove runs.) Once cooked to your desired temperature, transfer the tuna to a cutting board and cut into 1/4 to 1/2 inch slices. Plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired. Serve with soy sauce and wasabi.
This makes a great appetizer. But, I love to pair this with white rice and sautéed or stir fried veggies for a complete meal. Not a fan of seared tuna? There are countless ways to prepare this delicious fish. Two of my other go to tuna recipes are fresh tuna salad and tuna ceviche. Okay, so who is hungry now?!
