There are so many fishing tournaments in Key West throughout the year. And there should be, since we are the fishing capital of the world! Key West has world class fishing, from inshore flats fishing for species like bonefish, permit, and tarpon, to offshore monsters like marlin, kingfish, dolphin, and sailfish. January

  • January 1 – July 31, 2022Key West Fishing Tournament – Anglers of all ages and abilities can target more than 40 species of fish in the Key West Fishing Tournament, a free-entry multi-division challenge that takes place December 1 to July 31. The tournament features divisions for men, women, junior anglers ages 10 to 15 and Pee Wees under 10 years old — making it ideal for extended families and multigenerational groups who want to share the angling experience.
  • January 13 – 16, 2022 – Key West Kingfish Mayhem – Headquartered at Stock Island Marina Village, this four-species event enhances what was formerly a king mackerel tournament by adding tuna, mahi-mahi and wahoo. February

  • February 10 – 12, 2022Cuda Bowl – Shallow water flats anglers and guides are invited to hook-up and fight their barracuda rivals. Event is to be headquartered at Hurricane Hole Marina, Stock Island. Prizes and trophies are to be awarded for top angler and guide in light tackle spin and fly divisions. Loren Rea 305-360-6969.

  • March 7 – 10, 2022March Merkin Invitational Permit Tournament – A charity flats-and-fly-only tournament with a twist – in addition to catch and release, anglers earn extra points for tagging their caught fish. Held at the Key West Yacht Harbor Marina on Stock Island.

  • April 6 – 10, 2022 – Viking Key West Challenge – Kicking off April 6-10, 2022 is the 8th annual Viking Key West Challenge. This event is more than just fishing it is about having a good time in one of the best places in the world! This event is open to all Viking owners and is a great event for the entire family.   • April 21 – 24, 2022Hayden Blaylock Key West Challenge – Join us for three days of fun, relaxation, and heated competition in the waters surrounding the Florida Keys while helping a noble cause. No matter who ends up catching the most fish or scoring the most points, the big winner is the Diabetes Research Institute, which has received over $925,000 in donations from the Hayden Blaylock Key West Challenge presented by Sunshine Gasoline.

  • June 17 – 19, 2022 – VFW Fishing Tournament – A family fun tournament, this event awards over $15,000 in total cash and prizes including $5,000 for the heaviest dolphin fish.   • June 24 – 26, 2022 – 1st Annual Florida Keys PBA Charity Dolphin Tournament – Ocean’s Edge Marina and Resort – This new Florida Keys fishing tournament is organized by S. Florida PBA members. Anglers are invited to enjoy a weekend of sportfishing to help benefit the Autism Society of the Keys and The Love Fund, Inc. June 25 is the Captains Meeting followed by 2 days of fishing. June 27 the Awards dinner will be held.  Based on number of entrants, prizes will be awarded to: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th place, Top PBA Member, Top Female, Top Junior and Biggest Tuna.   • July ?? 2022Del Brown Permit Tournament – Anglers fly-fish on the flats in a challenge that honors the late angling pioneer Del Brown, who caught and released more than 500 permit off the Keys. Professionals and guides are allowed to compete as well.
  • July 20 – 23, 2022Stock Island Marina Village Key West Marlin Tournament – Anglers ply the waters once fished by novelist Ernest Hemingway, vying for $50,000 in guaranteed cash prizes. Held in conjunction with Key West’s annual Hemingway Days festival, the event awards $25,000 to the first-place team. Teams can enter one fun fish (dolphin, tuna, wahoo or released sailfish) per day to add to their point total. Tim Greene 305-304-0317.

  • September 9 – 10, 2022 – SLAM – Celebrity tournament benefitting cystic fibrosis. Fishing the flats for tarpon, bonefish, and permit.
