Bob’s on Margaret – Restaurant Review

The Bob’s on Margaret restaurant review was something that I was very excited about doing. Especially since they were offering a 50% off special for the month of October. So, with friends in tow, we made reservations for 5pm last evening. We arrived a few minutes early; as we waited for the doors to open along with a small crowd of other diners, we admired the clean look of this newer eatery.

We decided to dine outside as it was such a nice evening. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor dining space here. Again, it all looked clean and new and trendy. The bar area was gorgeous, and as the night went on, the bar proved to be a popular place for the locals to gather. And, they made some tasty cocktails as well. In addition, they have a few alcohol free cocktails as well which is nice to see on a drink menu. Spoiler alert, the drinks and the atmosphere were by far the best part of this experience.

Bob’s on Margaret Starters

Initially, we ordered the mussels and the tuna poke bowl for the table to start. Presentation was beautiful. The mussels were decent. They were served with delicious toast and enough broth to dip and enjoy. It was a bit mild in the flavor department, but enjoyable.

Unfortunately, the tuna poke bowl was a different story. First, there was almost no tuna in it. And, the quality was horrid; most of the tuna was inedible cartilage. We told the staff and they seemed indifferent. The rest of the bowl was piled high with mango, carrot, avocado, edamame, cucumber, cabbage, and seaweed salad. While these ingredients were fresh, everything was completely bland with the exception of the seaweed salad which was fresh and delicious.

Next, my husband and I split the wedge salad and our friends split a spinach strawberry salad. Again, we were disappointed with the salads. Ingredients were fresh, but everything was lacking taste. The wedge had almost no dressing, which was pretty uneventful in the flavor department, and there were very few pork belly bits which would have at least given the salad some pep. Our friends did not even realize that the dressing on their salad was blue cheese as it had no flavor to it.

Bob’s on Margaret Entrees

For our entrees, I went with the scallops which were served with a pea puree and mashed potatoes. There were only four scallops on the plate, but they were cooked properly. However, I must say that the best part was the mashed potatoes which were garlicky and delicious. I just wished there were a bit more of them with an already small entree.

Next, my husband decided to get the 12oz ribeye, and he asked for it to be done medium. It was probably the thinnest steak I have ever seen served at a restaurant. And, it was cooked nearer to well done, so it was tough and lacking flavor. The waitress did offer to have a new one prepared for him, but at that point he did not want to wait for another one to be cooked while the rest of us ate our meals. Sadly, he did not like the grilled veggies, mostly eggplant, but I thought those were delicious and well seasoned. He said a steak at Outback would have been better.

Amanda went with the Bouillabaisse. She said that the seafood in it and the squash noodles were cooked perfectly, but again, it all really lacked flavor.

Jason went with the tuna steak special. Unfortunately, he ended up having it sent back to the kitchen as it was almost completely raw; they only seared it momentarily on one side and the other side never even touched the heat. At least it only needed a couple of minutes in the kitchen so that did not hold up dinner too long. Again, the grade of tuna was not that great. The rice had zero flavor, but the seaweed salad was good. Also, there was no wasabi which would have made the tuna somewhat enjoyable.

More About Key West

Since everything we tried was pretty much wanting, other than the drinks, we decided not to temp it with dessert and instead we headed to Flamingo Crossing for ice cream. The total bill was $350, but with the discount it was $175 for which I was glad as the food quality didn’t warrant the price. It was a real disappointment for us all.

After this experience, I would not come back here or recommend it for anyone for dinner. However, I would recommend the bar for drinks.
