Commodore – Review

The Commodore has been a fine dining steak house here in Key West for many years. Located on the second floor of A & B Marina overlooking the harbor, it is known as the “most beautiful dining room in Key West.” The decor is imaginative yet sedate and the food is delicious. Local seafood and land fare is moderately priced. Plus, there is parking right downstairs!

While we always love coming here for a delicious steak cooked to perfection or an amazing seafood special, some visits are better than others. Staffing in this industry can be a challenge, and some are more friendly than others. I have to say that we only had one very bad serving experience here years ago. And in nearly twenty years of eating here, that is not too shabby!

This last experience I was feeling under the weather, but my husband dragged me out of the house thinking int would make me feel better. I have to say that even though I was not at my best, I still thoroughly enjoyed my dinner.

The bread basket is always a welcome carb loaded experience. I am Italian so going without bread is sacrilegious to me! Especially when the bread is so good!

The filet with bernaise sauce is my favorite dish here. Served with a vegetable mealy and potato of choice, this is a steak house staple that they do very well at the Commodore. Veggies are not overcooked, and even though I am not a huge fan of squash, they somehow make them palatable to me. The steak is always cooked to order, and the bernaise sauce is a nice accompaniment to the meat making it a special dinner out versus what I am going to prepare at home.

Steven ordered the exact same thing, so nothing different to report on there. Paired with a nice glass of cabernet, you cannot go wrong with date night at the Commodore.

I will mention that our last dinner here, I ordered the swordfish special. It was prepared perfectly and was without a doubt the best tasting swordfish dish I have ever eaten. I cannot wait until it is on the menu again!
