Old Town Mexican Cafe – Review

In the mood for Mexican food, my husband and I decided to head downtown to Old Town Mexican Cafe on Duval Street. Not on our regular restaurant rotation, we have eaten here a few times in the past and enjoyed the atmosphere.

We were seated immediately and brought over menus and two carafes of water. Both of us are water drinkers and it is pretty darn hot out there right now. As I perused the menu, I did notice that the rates are much higher than they were the last time we ate here. But, it seems like that is the case for pretty much everywhere right now with rising costs of the day.

The Food

To start, I decided to get an order of guacamole to go with the chips and salsa that they bring over. Then, I ordered the Enchilada Verdes with green chili, chicken, tomato, onions, cheese, rice and black beans. Steven ordered a Beef Burrito.

The guacamole was fresh and delicious. If it was not $10 for a tiny bowl, I would have put it on everything I ate for dinner. But, I was not a huge fan of the salsa; it was a bit too limey for my taste.

I did not try the burrito, but it looked amazing. And, my husband said that it was very fresh and enjoyed it very much. Besides the nice portion size, my enchilada was amazing. And, the chicken was very flavorful.

Service was very good, and as I mentioned above, the atmosphere is very nice. The garden area dining is cool and inviting. We left full and enjoyed our meals. But, we are still not adding this to our regular restaurant rotation because of parking and expense. While I do not mind paying for good food and service, it is a little much for normal casual dining. But, we will be back again at some point.
