Wanting to try something a little different for dinner last night, we decided to meet up with some friends at Souper Happy. If you like soup, this is the place for you. But if you are in the mood for something else, you can also order from the Miso Happy menu which is their sister restaurant right next door that shares a kitchen.
We started off with drinks. I ordered a mango martini which was made with sake and mango puree. This was so good. Very refreshing and not too sweet. They could end up being quite dangerous! They have an extensive saki menu as well as beer and wine. On my next visit, I want to try the lychee Martini or the Souperhappy Colada.
The Food
We ordered crab rangoon for the table and salads. We got the ginger dressing and our friends got the peanut dressing. Both were tasty, and a bit sweeter than expected. The crab rangoon was crispy and light with a rich filling of crab and cream cheese inside. Very tasty, especially when paired with the sweet chili sauce.
Our friends ended up not going with the soup. They went with stir fry instead. Lisa’s was very spicy as she went with a level 4 (level 5 is the hottest). But the shrimp and the veggies were crisp and deliciously fresh. I like spice, but would have gone down a level or two just. to better enjoy the flavor of the food more.
Steven went with the Souperhappy Seafood Noodle Soup which was a coconut Tom Yum Soup with rice noodles, pink shrimp, soft shell crab, squid, boiled egg, spring onion, and fried lobster wonton. It looked amazing with a show stopping presentation. And I loved the coconut soup; it was so flavorful.
I went with the Tortuga shrimp bowl which consisted of egg noodles with shrimp, shrimp wonton, bean sprout, fried garlic, fresh cilantro, and spring onion in a clear broth. The bowl was enormous and I only ended up eating about half of it. I loved the garlic flavor in the soup and the freshness of the cilantro. The noodles and the shrimp were very flavorful. I didn’t care for the shrimp wontons as much as they just didn’t have a lot of flavor. All in all I enjoyed my meal, although I don’t think it would be a repeat order for me.
