El Sibone Stock Island - Review

El Siboney is named after a little known Cuban Indian tribe, the Siboney. This is Cuban food done family style. Formerly the Rusty Anchor on Stock Island, Key West.

Fresh Catch of the day. The hook and cook here is on Point!!

El Siboney on Stock Island is located right in the heart of downtown Stock Island, about 15 minutes from downtown Key West. Opened in 2018 and a sister to the Key West restaurant El Siboney located in down town Key West. Within walking distance to the Perry Hotel and some of the Stock Island Air B&Bs and marinas. The building is formerly the famous Rusty Anchor.

Reservations are not taken or required but calling ahead with a large group is helpful, and the staff are very accommodating. They are open 11:00 AM until 9:30 PM everyday. They also offer pick up and delivery service!

Very much a locals family and Key West workforce lunch spot. This is a popular spot for couples, groups, and special occasions like birthdays. Parking is free, but can get full at rush hours.  Remember, this is a locals favorite.

El Siboney Cuisine

El Siboney serves Cuban food. Lots of beef, chicken, pork, seafood, and soups and sandwiches served up in a dozen different ways each. We call it Cuban comfort food. They also provide Hook and Cook services at a friendly price with some great sides.

El Siboney Stock Island - Review

We love the relaxed open and roomy atmosphere and the ice cold air conditioning! The food is always consistent, plentiful and affordably priced. And today I learned that they will cook your catch too! For $14.99 per person, they will cook your catch in a variety of ways and give you two sides as well! Let me tell you that it was so good. I especially liked their fried fish as the batter was very light and tasty. This is a must for lunch or dinner if you are looking for authentic Cuban cuisine or a place to cook your catch.

Appetizers

Appetizers

From traditional Cuban snacks like empanadas filled with cheese, chicken or beef and ham croquettes to American favorites like cheesy fries and chicken wings, you will find it here. Getting a few appetizers for the table to try and share is always a good idea here. You can try something new, like tostones, chicharrons, or conch fritters and broaden your culinary horizons.

El Siboney on Stock Island also has a full bar. You can sit at the bar enjoying a cocktail or two and one of the many tasty appetizers too.  One of my favorite drinks here is the home made sangria which you can get by the glass, half pitcher, pitcher, or gallon! It is a red wine based drink, loaded with fresh fruit. It is light and refreshing.

Entrées

Pork: For years, my favorite dish at El Siboney was the lechon asado or roast pork. This slow cooked mojo seasoned meat served alongside some rice and beans is a staple dish here in Key West. They also serve up pork chops, pork chunks, and pork tenderloin. All are tender and tasty and will keep you coming back for more!

Beef: The Palomilla steak is one of the most popular steaks served here. They also have a breaded version. But I prefer the teriyaki steak or the ropa vieja. You can also enjoy picadillo, liver, and meatballs.

Seafood: As mentioned above, if you bring in your own fish, they will prepare it for you. But, no need to do that as they have some of the most delicious shrimp I have had on the island. The shrimp enchilada are baked in a tangy tomato based sauce and served with rice. They also serve whole fried fish, grilled yellowtail, garlic shrimp, mahi-mahi, coconut shrimp, and grouper. All of it is prepared perfectly every time I have tried it.

Chicken: This is a go to for our crew. If you are looking for something a bit lighter, but not lacking in amount, the salad with grilled chicken will fill you sip. We more typically order the roast chicken, garlic chicken, or barbecue chicken. The teriyaki chicken and the chicken and shrimp are also popular. All of these dishes are good portions, so they can usually provide leftovers too.

Sandwiches: cuban bread filled with grilled or fried fish, pork, beef or chicken are all available. But, their most popular sandwich is the Cuban Mix.

Specials: Each day, El Siboney has a special entree and soup. Friday is my personal favorite, chicken and rice. They do sell out, so get here early for lunch or you will miss out! The tender chicken mixed with perfectly seasoned yellow rice, peas, and pimentos is a local favorite. My husband enjoys Thursdays for their BBQ ribs where the meat simply falls off of the bones.

Desserts

Of course, this being Key West, key lime pie is on the menu. But, so are more ethnic options such as flan, rice pudding, and natilla.

El Siboney Stock Island also has a dessert case visible when you walk in and the specialty cake slices are always changing. Honestly, I am always too full to even think about dessert after eating here, but for those with a sweet tooth, there are a ton of options.

I highly recommend getting a Cuban coffee to go along with one of these treats to close out the meal. The coffee is divine. Whether you want a cafe con leche (Cuban coffee with milk and a lot of sugar), a colada, a cortadito, or just a regular American coffee, you decide the caffeine level you can endure and go for it!

So, if you are staying in Key West, or even better at one of the new hotels on Stock Island such as the Perry Hotel or Ocean’s Edge, you should really try some authentic Cuban cooking and visit El Siboney on Stock Island. It is located at 5501 5th Avenue on Stock Island. It is just about a 15 minute drive from downtown Key West.
