Barrel House at the Stock Island Marina Village Review

March 10, 2020

I was very excited to hear about a new BBQ restaurant near work. Located at the Stock Island Marina Village which is also home to the Perry Resort and a few other eateries, the Barrel House makes a nice edition to the property.

Located poolside, the Barrel House has a very casual atmosphere. With views of some gorgeous boats and beautiful landscaping, this is a really relaxing venue. Definitely a great place to sit back with a drink.

We wanted to try a variety of items, so we did just that. We ordered a half rack of the St. Louis pork ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and Wagyu tri-tip with sides of mac and cheese, cole slaw, and cheddar biscuits.

Available sauces to slather your meat in include: sweet mango habanero, chipotle chimi churri, Carolina BBQ, and Tangy Texas BBQ. I like sweet, so I went right for the Carolina which was delicious. The chipotle chimi churri was another favorite at our table.

As far as the BBQ is concerned, it didn’t match up to our experiences in the Carolinas or Georgia, but it was not bad. It was unanimous amongst our table that the brisket was the best, followed by the pork. We all enjoyed those two options. However, we agreed that the trip-tip did not have a great flavor and was too dry, even with the sauce helping it out. The ribs were just okay; if you are fans of baby backs like we are, the ribs here won’t win you over.

We were split on the cheddar biscuit. I loved it and my other half did not. I liked the herbs and the texture which made it a nice combination with the sauces. My husband, on the other hand, is a huge fan of corn bread with his BBQ so he was a bit disappointed that was not an choice here.

We all thought that the mac and cheese was very bland, lacking both cheesiness and flavor.

The cole slaw was good. Not heavy with mayo like some can be. The candied pecans in it gave it a nice crunch and uniqueness.

We ended up getting so much food that we didn’t bother with dessert, but the pecan pie sounded inviting. Maybe next time.

The restaurant also has a nice drink menu with all kinds of interesting cocktails.
