Onlywood Grill, Key West – Review

If you have been to Onlywood Pizzeria just off of Duval Street and enjoyed the food but maybe not the space, you will love their newer location on Caroline Street. This is a chic and sprawling location (for Key West) with both indoor and outdoor seating, and the food it just as good as it is at the original location.

I was intent on ordering a glass of cabernet to go with my dinner as they have a nice wine list here, but when we got to Onlywood and I realized that they had Peroni on tap I changed my mind and went with that. It was a light and delightful pairing with dinner.

There are plenty of both hot and cold appetizers to try here, and the decision was a tough one, but eventually we settled on the polpette al sugo, aka homemade meatballs and the gamberi in padella, or shrimp in a garlic oil. Both were served with crostini to mop up the sauces like a good Italian should. The meatballs were enjoyable and the sauce was tasty, indeed deserving of being mopped up with good Italian bread. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and presented beautifully; the amount of garlic was just right.

For dinner we went with a couple of pizzas, which are basically personal sized. Two girls could easily share one, but a guy will definitely want his own. Again, a lot of options here. And if pizza is not your thing, they have a huge menu with many other tempting entrees as well. You can enjoy anything from salads and sandwiches to fresh pastas to steaks and seafood. But it is all made with authentic Italian ingredients.

I was feeling nostalgic I guess, as I went with a pepperoni pizza. Why mess with perfection, right? I loved the crust and the sauce as I already mentioned was delicious too. The amount of pepperoni was respectable, and obviously not the precut slices of generic meat that are used in most pizzerias.

My hubby went with the Maialona which was covered in slices of prosciutto, sausage, pepperoni and of course red sauce and cheeses. He loved it and dubbed it his new favorite pizza on the island.

Once again, we were too full to try dessert. Maybe next time I should eat dessert first!
