Croissants de France is a French bakery and bistro serving up breakfast and lunch daily. As you can guess from the name, fare is French, with things like croissants, crepes, salads, and sandwiches on the menu. They also have coffees to enjoy with your sweet treat of choice.
Croissants de France is a busy little bakery and cafe. Some days, you may have to wait to put in your food order because the line can be out the door. But, it is worth the wait!
Sometimes we just grab a decadent croissant to go. Other times we sit down in the courtyard for a more leisurely lunch. There are a few things on the menu that I am not a fan of. And while they have a large selection of coffee drinks to choose from (and I love coffee), I do not care for the coffee here. I usually get a cup of tea or a water instead. But, all of their pastries that I have had are amazing.
Once you make it to the front of the line, you can get a better look at all of the pastries in the cases and make your choice. Order at the counter and then you will be given a buzzer to pick up the food when ready. If they are not too busy, they will bring it out to you instead.
Quiche – This is my absolute favorite savory item to get here. They have three different kinds daily. My personal choice is always the vegetable one. But, they are all rich and delicious. My only complaint is that I wish that they served this with a little salad to accompany it to bring in more freshness with the creamy eggs.
– Vegetable which has spinach, mushrooms and feta.
– Lorraine which is of course ham and Swiss.
– Bacon, Tomato and Cheddar which is of course self explanatory.
Sandwiches – With several options to choose from.
– Curry Chicken: this is not my favorite as I find this to be very bland. It needs something to kick it up a notch like maybe grapes or something similar.
– Tuna Salad: this is my husband’s favorite thing to get for lunch here. The tuna salad is tasty. We love to get this on a croissant rather than on a baguette which would taste great but be a bit hard to eat.
– Ham and Brie: The ham is a good quality ham as is the brie, but it is really a little bit plain and needs something like butter or a good dijon mustard to kick it up on the flavor scale.
– Croque Madame & Croque Monsieur: these indulgent sandwiches are absolutely delicious. Made on brioche toast, the ham and cheese is piled on and covered in a rich béchamel sauce and popped in the oven to warm and brown. The addition of a fried egg on top takes it from being a Monsieur to a Madame. I got this the other day and it was way too much for one person to eat in my opinion. Definitely a delicious and sharable sandwich!
Eggs – whether you want a simple omelette or a fancy Benedict, you can get it here if you are dining in.
– Benedicts: they have several options here including the classic, salmon, and veggie. While this is a favorite breakfast item of mine, I have not tried it here as of yet, so I will have to report back.
– Omelets: This is something I get here often for breakfast and for lunch. They have a spinach and brie, a ham and cheddar, and a vegetarian option. I have tried them all. Fluffy and buttery and a real delight. Plus, it was a good bit of food, so I was full afterwards. It was also served with a side salad so it made a fine meal, even for lunch! I know several Europeans that come here to grab an omelette because it reminds them of their mom’s cooking back home.
Crepes & Galettes – the crepes are sweet and the galettes are savory.
– Butter and Sugar: simple yet decadent and delicious. The thin pancake is topped with butter and sprinkled with sugar and then folded into a beautiful presentation.
Where to begin! Obviously they have many croissants. But they also have a selection of other sweets that vary day to day. From Napoleons to fruit tarts to Key Lime Pie (one of the best on the island in my opinion), each day brings a new selection of decadent sweets to enjoy. But, there is a large selection of croissants and beignets which are available daily.
Almond Croissant – flakey and delicious filled with almond paste and topped with sliced almonds and powdered sugar. I like these, but I find the almond paste to be less flavorful than some other ones I have had at other bakeries.
Chocolate Croissant – a plain croissant filled with a small piece of chocolate. Good and not overpowering on sweetness.
Banana Chocolate Croissant – this is one of my favorites as I love the pairing of the two flavors.
Pear Almond Croissant – this is another favorite as the flavors of the almond and the pear compliment each other well.
Coconut Cream Croissant – if you like coconut, you will love this. If I am feeling exceptionally deserving of a treat, I go for this as it is truly decadent with the creamy filling inside of the buttery croissant, sprinkled with powdered sugar. Yum!
Guava Croissant – This is a very Key West thing to have on the menu. If you like guava you will really enjoy the sweet fruit filling with the buttery pastry.
Spinach Croissant – my favorite savory croissant. The spinach and feta paired with a flakey and buttery croissant is decadent yet still feels like you are eating something somewhat healthy.
Bacon Cheddar Croissant – The ratio of filling to croissant in these is weak, and so I would not recommend this if you are hungry and expecting something very filling.
Custard Beignet – My favorite of the beignets here, this is what I order if I am in the mood for a donut. It is both light and rich with the fluffy pastry and the sweet custard inside, all covered in sugar.
Key Lime Beignet – It is Key West, so there has to be a key lime option, and this is it! Definitely something you should get if visiting the island!
Strawberry Beignet – The strawberry filling is almost cloyingly sweet, and while it tastes very good, it is a bit much for my taste. I wish that they would make a raspberry one instead which I think would pair a bit better.
Nutella Beignet – If you like Nutella, you will love this.
