Louie’s Backyard: Review (Lunch)

If you have not read my review about dinner at Louie’s Backyard, check it out.

I have eaten dinner at Louie’s Backyard many times over the 20 plus years that I have lived in the Florida Keys, but in all of that time, I have never eaten lunch there. My husband and I recently celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary, and since it was such a beautiful day, we decided to take a half day off of work to enjoy a late lunch at Louie’s. I highly recommend reservations, even for lunch, as they were packed.

We asked to be seated outside since it was such a lovely day and we wanted to enjoy the gorgeous ocean view that Louie’s Backyard offers. After a quick table switch (the first table we were seated at was tucked into a tight corner) we were able to do just that.

We started with drinks off of their cocktail menu and their delicious warm and crusty bread. My husband so enjoyed the Bahamian conch chowder last time we ate here that he ordered that again as his appetizer while I ordered a salad. Both were very good.

For my main, I went with our waiter’s suggestion and ordered the Prime Rib French Dip, which was not a mistake. It was crispy and juicy all at once, and the flavors were amazing. I actually only ate half of the sandwich and saved the other half for lunch the next day, and it was still delicious. It was served with steak fries, my favorite! Can you tell that I was very happy with my selection?

My husband decided to go with the double cheeseburger with secret sauce and caramelized onions, which was also served with steak fries. He said that the burger was delicious.

We rounded off the meal with a couple of cappuccinos and we shared a slice of key lime pie. Now, key lime pie is not my goto dessert, but every once in awhile I have a craving for it. This particular creation was really very tasty. It was slightly tart and served with beautiful berries and a dollop of whipped cream. It was a perfect ending to a delicious meal.

I enjoyed not only the meal and the view, but also the fact that we were not rushed off or hurried along and we could savor our meal and our time together. When it was time to go, we departed off the back deck where we played with out Maltese, Indiana Bones, and a few other dogs that were splashing around Dog Beach.

So, after years of not going to Louie’s for lunch, this may become a more frequent thing for us as it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience in every way. We highly recommend it!
