Key West Food Truck Series: One Love

Being from New Jersey, food trucks are nothing new to me. I grew up going to the affectionately termed “grease trucks” located near Rutgers University. Over the past few year, food trucks have become quite the craze. Key West now has a number of food trucks to choose from serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Today, my friend Katie and I decided to try lunch at One Love which is located at the Chevron Station on Stock Island. While they do offer delivery, they were too busy and short staffed today, so we drove the 3 minutes to pick it up and bring it back to my office.

The island inspired menu has several interesting choices from land and sea. To start, we ordered the Guac and Chips and the Conch Fritters served with a jerk butter sauce. Katie and I both agreed that the guac was tasty, but not the best we had ever had. The conch fritters, which were gluten free by the way, were really delicious. They not only had a great taste, but the conch was not chewy.

For our lunches Katie ordered the One Love Bowl filled with sweet potato, quinoa, sautéed veggies, and shrimp. I am not a quinoa fan, so I did not try it, but Katie enjoyed the dish and the perfectly cooked shrimp. The potion was large so she was not left hungry. Her only wish was that there was more sweet potatoes because they were prepared so wonderfully.

I ordered the Island Salad which was greens mixed with a key lime vinaigrette, pico de mango, and avocado and topped with jerk chicken. I would have preferred the chicken to be boneless on my salad for sake of ease, but the entire dish was very tasty, and a really good portion size as well.

We also ordered ginger iced teas and rum cake for dessert. The iced teas were packed full of fresh ginger, and while it tasted really good, it was not as refreshing as we imagined, but we would get it again for the taste. The rum cakes were amazing, and definitely the standout of the meal for us both. They were dense and moist, and served with whipped cream and berries. I will be dreaming about that dessert for awhile.

This entire meal ran us about $40, and we both agreed that we would be happy to eat here again. One Love is open Tuesday-Sunday from 11AM-6PM. If you are in Key West it is worth a try for lunch. Call in your order and pick it up; then bring it to Higgs Beach and enjoy such with an amazing view!

There are so many places to eat on this island, so before you decide where to go, be sure to read my Key West restaurant reviews; check out our restaurant review section of this blog.
