Key West local Denzel Fisher started Sweet Conch Kitchen two years back so that he could share his passion for food and for cooking. He operates out of the American Legion Post 28, next to the Key West Golf Course at 5610 College Road. You can eat here if you want as it is open to the public. Or, you can order food for pick up or delivery through Door Dash or Uber Eats. If you want to eat at the American Legion, you just go into the back and order right from Denzel, paying him directly. Then, you get your drinks separately from the bar. Pick a table and he will bring the food to you.
We decided to grab lunch here the other day. My husband and I both went with the Nasty Burger and fries. The burger patty was served on a soft burger bun with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, ketchup, mustard, mayo and cheese. All that I have to say is that it was freaking delicious! It was like eating a Whopper but better. The fresh, crisp lettuce and other ingredients just make it a great burger.
And, I cannot wait to try some of the other things he cooks up such as fried fish and fried shrimp. His chicken wings I hear are a contender for the best on the island. And, the conch fritters are a secret family recipe that is over 80 years old. His family were the original owners of the Conch Shop on Thomas Street that was then moved to Petronia Street. So, cooking is in the blood.
Denzel also cooks up breakfast at the Legion on Sunday mornings and on certain days he does other nightly specials such as baked ziti, chicken pot pie, picadillo, and other yummy meals at very reasonable prices. Definitely worth trying if you are looking for a delicious, affordable, and casual meal while in Key West. Hours vary, so, check his posts on Instagram or Facebook to see his weekly hours and check out any specials that he is serving up.
