Key West – Bike Week 2011

All you have to do is step outside today and you would know exactly what event is going on this week. You guessed it; that constant roar up and down the road signifies bike week is finally here, formally called the 39th annual Key West Poker Run.

There are typically over 10,000 motorcyclists and enthusiasts that ride from Miami through the Florida Keys and finally to Key West. Along the way there are many stops for riders to enjoy while collecting their poker hand. Prizes are awarded to the rider with the best poker hand. Any and all makes of motorcycle, car, or truck is welcome to participate in the event.

A few blocks on lower Duval Street will be closed to traffic during this event as the road will be lined with a wide array of bikes; this works out well for both the bikers and the onlookers. Even if you are not a participant or into motorcycles, this is a site to behold. While you will see all types of bikes such as crotch rockets, cruisers, trikes, sport bikes, and tour bikes, some are truly one of a kind works of art to be admired as well as ridden.

For anyone on the road anytime, but during this time especially, be careful. Be mindful of bikers. As they say, check twice. We want this to be a fun and safe event.
