Michael’s | Review

1/1/20 UPDATE – Michael’s has been permanently closed.

Michael’s Restaurant is fine dining Key West style, with indoor and outdoor seating available and a romantic atmosphere. I have reviewed Michael’s in the past but it has been quite awhile. And I am happy to report that not much has changed (that is definitely a good thing!). If I was made out of money I would eat here everyday. The food is superb; everything from the appetizers to the desserts were prepared perfectly and presentation was lovely.

Michael’s is best known for its steaks, but they also have a wonderful selection of delicious salads, hors devours, and local seafood. They are also the only place on the island that does fondue (although it is only available at the outdoor bar due to fire precautions).

On this most recent visit, we ordered scallops and brie, cucumber tuna roll, wedge salad, filet al forno, cowboy steak, mousse, and key lime pie. We also had a few drinks and coffee to end the meal. The scallops appetizer cost $12 and there were only two on the plate, but it was a lovely presentation and absolutely perfectly prepared. The tuna was fresh and beautifully presented. Salads were delicious. Steaks were cooked as ordered and were mouthwatering. The desserts were probably the least impressive in terms of taste of the evening, but tasty none the less; we have had better Key Lime Pie elsewhere, but it was not bad by any means.

Our server was wonderful as well throughout the meal. And the staff does little things to enhance the experience such as when you get up from the table they fold the napkin and place it neatly on the back of your chair. But I have to say that after we were brought the check the waiter seemed to disappear. My coffee cup was empty for about 15 minutes. I would have liked another cup but we ended up leaving. But this one little oversight was not enough to ruin the fabulous meal we had.

Michael’s has a huge amount of regulars and repeat clientele and reservations are most definitely needed if you plan on dining here. It is a must when visiting Key West and you are not on a budget.
