Southernmost VFW Cheeseburger
Cheeseburger from the Southernmost VFW

Southernmost VFW Post 3911

Did you know that you don’t have to be a member or even a veteran to get food and drink at the local Southernmost VFW Post 3911? All are welcome, and it helps to support the local chapter. Plus, it is worth it for an affordable bite as they offer some great specials.

Steven and I decided to grab lunch here on Monday since it features half price burgers which are served with fries. Or, for a small upcharge, you can get onion rings or a salad instead. Steven ordered a regular cheeseburger and I got the cowboy burger, both cooked medium. We also ordered onion rings as a side.

The Food

The servers were super friendly. The burgers were cooked perfectly and they were a good size too, so we did not leave hungry! While I wouldn’t say that it was the best burger I have ever had, it was a good burger. And, it was well worth the $8 it costs on Mondays. Heck, it is well worth the $16 it costs the rest of the week too! The fries and onion rings were tasty and the salad was fresh.

We actually went back the next day because we wanted to try the chicken sandwich, but they were out of the chicken. I ordered the shrimp quesadillas instead which were a very large portion and tasty as well. I could only eat half of the food on my plate. Portions here are man sized for sure! While we did not imbibe any spirits either day, the V has a couple of nicely stocked bars that many of the local veterans enjoy regularly.

Mondays feature the burger special. However, there are other specials throughout the week. For instance, Thursday is currently beef Wellington night, although they were doing prime rib for a while. Fridays are always fish fry day. And Saturdays starting at 6pm is Bingo night which helps to raise money for the post.

The “V” as it is referred to also has an onsite deli featuring Boar’s Head meats, cheeses, salads, and cookies. And a butcher as well, which is something Key West has bee missing. And, like the restaurant, anyone can come shop here as well. Plus, if you buy a steak at the butcher shop and want to eat it right away, the restaurant will cook it up for you for a slight upcharge.
