Restaurant reviews and dining out in Key West. The good and bad of special events, what not to do, what to do.. where to stay away from and local spots you can go to enjoy a real Key West dining event..
I am Island Genn the original on line Key West concierge. My restaurant reviews are based on my own personal experience when I randomly visit these places with my husband, family or friends. Atmosphere, service, expense vs experience and of course the food are my main focus. I hope you find them informative..
This past New Year’s Eve, my husband and I decided to go with some friends to one of our favorite Key West restaurants, Nine One Five. We have eaten here many, many times and have never once had a bad meal, until New Year’s Eve that is. It was a special fixe price menu ($100 per person), and the menu looked amazing. Unfortunately, the food was not. At least the service was good as was the atmosphere.
Christmas is less than ten days away! I hope you have your shopping done. And, if you are coming to vacation in Key West over the holidays, I hope that you have made your reservations for Christmas dinner already. Here are some restaurants that are serving a special Christmas dinner, and I will be updating this list as I am informed of other restaurants offering specials for the holiday.
Last night we had dinner with some friends at Benihana. In case you are unfamiliar with this chain, it is a Japanese hibachi and sushi restaurant, known both for its food and the entertainment of the chefs preparing the food right in front of you.
We arrived at 6pm without reservations, and while the restaurant was practically empty, we still had to wait 25 minutes for a table. Our group sat at the bar and had a drink to pass the time. The bartender was awesome and the drinks on the menu were original and very yummy. I had a coconut sakitini which was amazing. (more…)
Blue Heaven is a famous Key West restaurant. Once the actual location of Ernest Hemingway's boxing ring. A tourist must do when visiting the island and "You don't have to die to get there".

When we arrived there were only 2 people at the bar and no one seated in the outside dining area which we thought unusual, but were happy about that so that the guys could relax after a long flight. Our waiter, Matt, brought over some menus which have been completely revised since the time of our last visit. (more…)

I know that choosing fifteen restaurants may seem weird since it is kind of a random number. But since this list encompasses both Key Largo and Islamorada I thought it…
The Hogfish Bar and Grill is hidden away in Safe Harbor on the Stock Island section of Key West. This is Key West old style! It is a locals hangout, but many a lucky tourist hear about this gem and make their way over to experience Key West the way it used to be. You can hang out at the bar, play some pool, listen to live entertainment in the evenings, or relax with a drink and some grub at a table overlooking the water.
