Grain & Berry

Grain and Berry’s attractive counter and menu.

Talking with my friend Pam the other day, she asked if I had been to Grain and Berry yet. “What the heck is that,” was my response as I had never heard of it. Apparently, it opened just the day before at the Overseas Market on Roosevelt Blvd. We decided to go the next day to check it out.

When we walked in, we could not believe how busy it was. People were in line ordering and every seat was taken. Luckily, a seat opened up while we were in line so Pam grabbed it while I placed our order.

Very modern yet warm was the feel here, and the counters covered with piles of bananas and pineapples. We loved the menus hanging on the wall behind the counter. And we love how you can see everything being prepared right in front of you. With a vast menu of options, it was difficult to decide what to get.

“Feed the Soul” Acai Bowl at Grain and Berry.

They have açaí bowls, spiraling bowls, pity bowls, kale bowls, oatmeal bowls, yogurt bowls, yogurt parfaits, yogurt banana splits, smoothies, fresh juices, and avocado toast. With descriptions and pictures decorating the walls, even one new to the health food scene could make an education decision on what to get. Everything looks so fresh and delicious. And, you will love the creative names that they come up with for all of the options; “Oh, Kale No!” had to be one of my favorites on the list.

If I had not eaten breakfast earlier that day, I would have gotten the avocado toast with an egg; someone seated near to us ordered it and it looked amazing. Instead, I went with a simple smoothie and Pam went with one of the acai bowls.

The “Feed the Soul” Acai Bowl was enormous. I think that two people could easily have shared this and been full. It was piled high with açaí, granola, strawberries, pineapple, hemp seed, and honey. Not only did it look amazing, but it tasted amazing as well. I loved how the honey gave a little extra sweetness to the fresh fruit and the hemp seeds gave it just a little extra crunch.

The “Vacation” smoothie had banana, mango, pineapple and almond milk. It was thick and delicious. Not too sweet, and it was very filling.

I cannot wait until I have a free minute to get back here and try one of the many other options available. Maybe next time something with Nutella!
