Often, I get clients asking me how to get to Key West. There are actually quite a few options. Below, I touch on those options with the hopes that tourists will be able to use this information to make a more informed travel decision.
Flying
Personally, I love flying in and out of Key West. Key West International Airport (EYW) is serviced by American, Delta, Silver, and United Airlines. So, not matter where you are coming from, there is surely an airline to get you here.
Driving
For my fellow Floridians, driving to Key West may be the best option for you, especially if you will be stopping elsewhere along the way. We are approximately a 3 hour drive from Miami, 6 hours from Orlando, 8 hours from Jacksonville, and 10 hours from Tallahassee. Okay, so if you are in the panhandle, maybe you should fly down!
There are a few RV parks in and around Key West. For military personnel, NAS Key West has Sigsbee RV Park available. For anyone else, there is Leo’s Campground and Boyd’s Campground, both on the Stock Island section of Key West. And, just a short ride up the rode from Key West are Geiger Key Marina and RV Resort and Blue Water Key RV Resort.
However, if you are lacking a vehicle of your own, you can always take a greyhound bus down to the Keys. Out of all of the options, the bus will likely be your most affordable option to get to paradise.
The Overseas Highway is a very pretty drive on most days and well worth the drive at least one time in your life. Plus, it has an amazing history all of its own!
However, parking in Key West is difficult. If you are planning on driving, make sure tat your accommodations offer parking so that you can park and walk, bike or Uber to different areas of the island.
Boating
You can also get the island city of Key West by boat.
Many cruise ships port in Key West for the day. If you are planning a cruise, see if we are one of your destinations to give you a taste of Key West. And, I am sure you will want to come back for more!
There is a ferry, the Key West Express, that comes down to Key West from Ft. Myers. While not a great option for longer stays, this is a great option if you are in the Tampa Bay area and want to stay in Key West for a day or two.
Or, you can bring your own boat down to Key West. But, make sure that you have a reservation for a boat slip at a local marina before you head down.
