About Lobster Season

Lobster season opens annually on August 6th. However, the last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday in July are known as lobster mini season or sportsman season. This is just a taste of regular lobster season when properly licensed snorkelers and divers are able to take up to six legal lobsters per day in Monroe County waters. This year, these dates are July 27 and 28, 2022.

Enjoying the beautiful waters of the Florida Keys and Key West is what many people come down to experience. But, the number of boats on the water in recent years has greatly multiplied. So be careful out there if you are going to be partaking in this sport. Be sure to use a dive flag and dive or snorkel with a buddy. And make sure to follow the local rules. Twice the number of law enforcement officers will be on patrol during these days to make sure that people are staying safe and not pillaging our waters.

And if you didn’t happen to catch one, you can always order one off of the menu of your favorite seafood restaurant.

Key West Lobsterfest is an awesome event for lobster fans. Look for that coming up in August after the start of our regular lobster season. Local restaurants serve up lobster up and down Duval Street. Make sure to stay hydrated though as it is brutally hot out there right now!
