Duetto Gelato and Pizza | Review

After watching the first part of the Papa look-a-like context, my husband and I along with our friend Tommy headed just down Greene Street looking for a bite to eat as we were all famished after a long day. We stumbled into Duetto which is a tiny little pizzeria about a block from Sloppy Joe’s, and decided to share a pizza. In addition to pizza, they also serve paninis and gelato (Italian for sandwiches and ice cream).

We ordered a pizza with mushrooms and pepperoni at the counter inside and sat at one of the little tables outside of the shop. After about a 10 minute wait the pizza was brought out to us along with the regular pizza accouterments (garlic salt, crushed red peppers, and grated parmesan cheese).

After dishing a slice onto my plate I sprinkled it with the seasonings brought out to us and took a bite. I liked the thinness of the slice and the fact that it was easy to pick up and eat. It was also not overly greasy like some pepperoni pizzas can be. After my second slice I decided that while it was not the best pizza pie I had ever eaten, it was certainly passable and definitely the best pizza I ever had on this side of downtown. We all agreed on this point.

Twice while we ate a staff member stopped by the table to make sure that we had everything that we needed. That was a nice touch for a super casual pizza place.

We then decided to sample the gelato. Hey, it was hot outside! I went back to the counter inside and ordered a small cup of pistachio and hazelnut. My husband ordered a large cup or vanilla, and Tommy ordered a small mint chip. We all enjoyed our frozen treat and even though we all wanted more we decided to err on the side of moderation.

For a quick and relatively affordable bite in the heart of Old Town, this place was not half bad. I would definitely stop here again if I was hanging around downtown and wanted a quick slice. And to be honest, I would not mind trying some of their special pizzas like the Parmigiana (eggplant, cheese, basil, mozzarella, and tomato sauce), the Tricolore (fresh tomatoes, mascarpone cheese, fresh arugola, parmesan and mozzarella cheeses), or the Biancaneve (ricotta, parmesan, spinach, garlic, and mozzarella).
