Yesterday, my husband and I along with our friends Tommy and Pam had dinner at a new restaurant called The Docks located on Front Street on Stock Island. The building was home to Fishbusterz Fish House for many years. This new eatery has revamped an old, dingy space into one with a clean and trendy, yet welcoming vibe.
We were seated immediately by a friendly hostess. And soon after, our waiter, Santiago (from Argentina), came over to introduce himself and take our drink orders. We found some interesting options on the menu, but as soon as my eyes alighted on the snapper philly, I was sold. The Docks menu is seafood heavy, as one would imagine with that name. But, there is something for the landlubber as well.
To start, we ordered a lobster rangoon and a wedge salad. For entrees, Pam and I both went with the snapper philly, Tommy went with the fish and chips and Steven went with the burger.
The lobster rangoon were gently fried, served with a side of sweet chili sauce and scallions. They were so freaking tasty. My only complaint about this dish is that there were only three wontons, and I wish there were many, many more.
The wedge salad was beautifully presented and tasty. However, I am partial to my own blue cheese dressing. This dressing was a little light on blue cheese and heavy on garlic. There is also a beet salad on the menu that looked inviting, but I am saving that for my next visit.
When dinner arrived, everything looked great. Presentation was beautiful. I have to say that the snapper philly was probably the best fish sandwich I have ever eaten. The blackened snapper was smothered in grilled onions, peppers, and provolone cheese and served on an amoroso roll. Simply sublime! Who needs a cheesesteak with this sandwich! And the French fries were hand cut and fried to perfection with just the right amount of salt added to them.
What is there to say about a burger. It was delicious and cooked as specified. White cheddar cheese and pancetta gave it extra flair.
And the fish and chips, which in this case was tile fish, was amazing. Fried to perfection and served with a tasty tartar sauce, it was the best fish and chips this side of the Atlantic.
When to Go
At the end of dinner, Ian, one of the owners, stopped by our table and chatted with us for awhile. He is from Jersey as are Pam and I, so we had an instant rapport.
While dinner was not cheap, the atmosphere, food and service were well worth the price of admission. I cannot wait to go back! Open from Noon to 9:30 PM seven days a week, The Docks is a must go to for lunch or dinner while visiting Key West!
