There are really lots of events happening to celebrate the New Year’s arrival. Here are a listing of events and special menus for the holiday for you to peruse and help make your holiday plans!
Watch the crowd gather to ring in 2012 with our 19th Annual Dropping of the Conch Shell live from the roof of Sloppy Joe’s Bar at the corner of Greene and Duval in Key West. Sloppy Joe’s will lower the Queen Conch Shell at the stroke of midnight to ring in 2012. The Hyjinx Band will take the stage at 10:00pm to ring in the New Year! For those in the bar at midnight the dropping of the Conch Shell can be viewed on closed circuit TV in the main bar or Joe’s Tap Room.Sorry no reservations. Door charge.
Today is the first day of December! It was 80 degrees yesterday but a major cold front moved through last evening making it a balmy 70 degrees outside today. I know. I know. I am really suffering down here. Well, it may be 70 degrees, but it does not seem like Christmas is just around the corner. Maybe this weekend’s Tree Trimming Party at the Schooner Wharf Bar will change that. This Sunday, December 4th starting at 5:00 PM the Schooner Wharf will be hosting a party to get everyone into the holiday spirit.
Well October is here, the weather is starting to cool slightly, and Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas displays are already going up in the stores. That means Fantasy Fest is just around the corner. I always equate this annual festival to Mardi Gras. We have a ton of celebrations during these days (October 21 – 30) including parades, costume parties and contests, street fairs, body painting, and all sorts of wacky events.
I have an entire section of this blog dedicated to Fantasy Fest information. You can check it out HERE!
All you have to do is step outside today and you would know exactly what event is going on this week. You guessed it; that constant roar up and down the road signifies bike week is finally here, formally called the 39th annual Key West Poker Run.
So it is fall and the temperatures have dropped, if only very slightly, and the flats fishing game is on full speed. Tarpon, Bonefish, and Permit all around. Even with good numbers of fish around this time of year, these are some of the most challenging fish to catch. It is almost like a hunting trip, stalking the fish silently as your guide poles you down the flat.
Last year was the first ever Brewfest held by the Key West Sunshine Rotary of the Conch Republic, and it was such a success that they have decided to do it again this year! It will be held Labor Day weekend, from September 1-5. All proceeds will support the Rotary and their charitable works. If you enjoy a cold one, what better way to show your community support? Attend this years Second Annual! For ticket information please call 1-800-354-4455. Here is the schedule of events:
The 4 day long party celebrating the life of Captain Tony Tarracino, one of the most famous residents Key West has ever had, starts tonight!! Tony died at the age of 92 in 2008. He was the owner of Captain Tony’s Saloon located at 428 Greene Street, the former location of the original Sloppy Joe’s Bar where Hemingway spent many a days. He was also a boat captain, a smuggler, a movie actor, and the mayor of Key West. Here is the schedule of events:
