1/1/20 UPDATE – Michael’s has been permanently closed.

Michael’s Restaurant is fine dining Key West style, with indoor and outdoor seating available and a romantic atmosphere. I have reviewed Michael’s in the past but it has been quite awhile. And I am happy to report that not much has changed (that is definitely a good thing!). If I was made out of money I would eat here everyday. The food is superb; everything from the appetizers to the desserts were prepared perfectly and presentation was lovely.

Michael’s is best known for its steaks, but they also have a wonderful selection of delicious salads, hors devours, and local seafood. They are also the only place on the island that does fondue (although it is only available at the outdoor bar due to fire precautions).

Shor at the Hyatt Resort and Marina | Review

Shor is located at the Hyatt Resort at 601 Front Street in Key West. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. After hearing my friend rave about this place, we decided to try it out for dinner the other night. The nice thing about eating at hotel restaurant is that there is usually parking available and there is typically no wait time when other area restaurants are booked up. But we did make reservations just in case.

We used the valet which was nice. Then we walked through the property grounds to the restaurant. Along the way we met a guy with a marmoset wearing a diaper which was pretty interesting start to our evening I am not sure if he was staying at the hotel or if he was a local.) The grounds were very pretty and they had live turtles everywhere which was very cool. Obviously the property has a turtle motif going on here.

Key West Restaurant Review: Nine One Five Bistro and Wine Bar

Located at 915 Duval Street, this is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Key West. It is located on the quieter end of Duval Street, so area crowds and parking are not typically an issue here. Although, because the food and the wine selection are so amazing you do need to make reservations to eat here or you will probably be waiting a long time for a table. Nine One Five has both indoor and outdoor seating. In the summers I opt for inside seating to keep cool but in the winter sitting outside is very comfortable and great for people watching.

Key West Restaurant Review: The Hogfish Bar and Grill

The Hogfish Bar and Grill is hidden away in Safe Harbor on the Stock Island section of Key West. This is Key West old style! It is a locals hangout, but many a lucky tourist hear about this gem and make their way over to experience Key West the way it used to be. You can hang out at the bar, play some pool, listen to live entertainment in the evenings, or relax with a drink and some grub at a table overlooking the water.

Kaya Island Eats | Restaurant Review

My first review of Kaya’s was written shortly after the restaurant opened, and owner Scott Taylor told me at the time that he had a few things to improve on still. Well, I can say that he has definitely done that! Kaya is now my favorite restaurant in the area. The decor is airy and islandy and fun, and the addition of some noise absorbing panels along with the dismissal of the live entertainment has vastly improved upon the dining experience here. Unfortunately the building acoustics are not very good in the building, but Scott has still been able to ensure a pleasant atmosphere for diners here. And the water front view is not bad either.

Restaurant Review: Sunset Grille

Sunset Grille is located at the south end of Marathon on Knight’s Key. We ate lunch here a few days ago with some friends and we were really impressed with the food and the great layout. This is an open air tiki bar / restaurant with a pool overlooking the ocean and the 7 mile bridge. In fact the only thing that bothered us was that the beautiful vistas of the ocean to the south was partially obstructed by a huge screen which they use to show sporting events. I wish they would have put up a retractable screen instead.

Key West Restaurant Review: Six Toed Cat

Most people know the tale of Hemingway and his six toed cats, descendants which still roam the grounds of his Key West home. Well right next door to the Hemingway Home and Museum on Whitehead Street is a cute little eatery called the Six Toed Cat. They have both indoor and outdoor seating available as well as a small retail shop that sells Six Toed Cat souvenirs like mugs and tee-shirts. The outside of the building is a cute white conch style house and the inside is wide open with colorful island decor.

Key West Restaurant Review: Update on ZaZa Pizzeria

After ordering overly expensive personal pizzas for take put a few weeks ago I decided that I did not want to cook so my husband and I had dinner there the other evening. Inside there were less people than the last time I stopped by to pick up food; it was still loud though. We ended up eating outside to avoid the noise. Plus it is a beautiful waterfront view sitting out there. And the weather was perfect for sitting outside and enjoying a meal.

Key West Restaurant Review: Cafe Marquesa

Located at the Marquesa Hotel on Fleming Street, this classy restaurant has a unique international menu that is constantly changing and very good service. Menus are actually printed daily so the servers will not have any specials to tell you about. My husband and I had dinner here for our anniversary this weekend. The decor is elegant with huge framed mirrors, large windows, and beautiful molding. This all helps with the illusion that the dining area is larger than it is. The tables are fairly close together. Luckily, we were seated next to a very friendly and interesting German couple and we had a nice conversation throughout dinner. It is slightly noisy in the restaurant, but not obnoxiously so; there is foam glued underneath the tables to help combat the noise level. There were a few older gentlemen sitting at the bar that were quite loud, but it quieted down loads after they left.
